About
Abiodun Azeez (b. 1993, Osogbo, Nigeria) is a contemporary painter whose work explores personal memory, human relationships, and everyday experience through stylised figuration and expressive line. His paintings translate lived encounters, observations, and imagination into layered visual narratives that reflect the emotional and social rhythms of contemporary life.
Working primarily with oil colour, Azeez develops compositions built from simplified human forms, gestural lines, and vibrant colour structures. His figures often appear in moments of interaction, movement, or contemplation, revealing stories of togetherness, identity, and shared experience. Drawing inspiration from daily life, environments, and personal encounters, his work transforms ordinary moments into reflective visual narratives.

Raised in Osogbo, a city known for its rich artistic heritage, Abiodun was influenced early by the artistic traditions within his environment, as well as by his father, who introduced him to painting. These formative experiences shaped his interest in figurative representation and visual narration, which continue to inform his evolving artistic language.
Abiodun studied Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Benin, where he developed a strong foundation in contemporary painting. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Painting, expanding his research into narrative figuration, visual storytelling, and the relationship between personal experience and image-making.
Throughout his practice, he has participated in several workshops and residency programmes that have contributed to the development of his work. These include the Harmattan Workshop at the Bruce Onobrakpeya Foundation, Agbara-Otor, where he developed his Journey Series, exploring impasto techniques and textured surfaces. He later participated in the TR Art Residency in Lagos, supported by Tony Rapu, which further expanded his professional network and artistic engagement.
In 2026, he completed the Nchedo Art Residency in Lagos, where he produced an extensive body of work reflecting on collective experience, artistic dialogue, and the dynamics of shared studio practice. During this residency, he created a series of paintings and miniatures exploring themes of collaboration, movement, listening, and the complexity of urban and social encounters.
Through his practice, Abiodun continues to investigate how personal experience, environment, and imagination can be transformed into visual language. His paintings invite viewers to reflect on the emotional depth of everyday life and the subtle connections that shape human relationships.
