Abiodun Azeez (b. 1993, Osogbo, Nigeria) is a contemporary painter whose practice explores the complexities of human experience through stylised figuration, expressive line, and layered composition. Working primarily in oil, he draws upon memory, observation, imagination, and everyday encounters to construct visual narratives that reflect emotional, social, and cultural realities. His paintings occupy the space between representation and abstraction, inviting viewers to reflect on identity, resilience, human connection, and the emotional experiences that shape contemporary life. Through painting, he seeks not to illustrate events directly but to create images that remain open to interpretation.

Raised in Osogbo, a city renowned for its rich artistic heritage, Abiodun was introduced to painting by his father and influenced by the artistic traditions of his environment from an early age. These experiences laid the foundation for his continuing interest in figurative representation and visual storytelling. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Fine and Applied Arts (Painting) from the University of Benin, Nigeria. His professional development includes participation in the Harmattan Workshop at the Bruce Onobrakpeya Foundation, the TR Art Residency in Lagos, and the Nchedo Art Residency in Lagos.

These experiences have strengthened his commitment to research, experimentation, and contemporary figurative painting. His work has been presented through exhibitions, workshops, and residency programmes across Nigeria and international  space. As his practice continues to evolve, Abiodun remains interested in expanding the expressive possibilities of painting while exploring the emotional and social dimensions of contemporary life.
